A convicted rapist has admitted to Washington state police that he killed his two roommates because the men were plotting to have sex with boys, authorities said.
Richard Atkisson, 40, was ordered held for 72 hours so police in Pierce County can investigate his brutal claims.
He has not yet been charged. His arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.
He lumbered into Tuesday in shackles, wearing an orange jail jumpsuit. The right side of his face is covered with a black tattoo.
Atkisson is wanted in California for failing to register as a sex offender.
He had been living at a Spanaway, Wash. home with Joseph Moisa, 66, and Michael Henderson, 20, for about a year, authorities said.

Sheriff’s deputies had gone to do a routine inspection at Moisa’s home and discovered the bodies. Moisa also was a registered sex offender.
They later arrested Atkisson, who had taken a car belonging to one of the victim.
According to court documents, Atkisson told police he planned the attack for two days before picking up a length of pipe and beating Moisa in the head with it.
When Henderson came to investigate, Atkisson beat him to the ground and struck him until he was dead, cops said.
When Atkisson discovered that Moisa was still alive, he tied a plastic bag around the man’s head.
Atkisson told investigators the two men were "grooming" boys for have sex.
Atkisson said the men wanted his son to visit them, and when he heard that, he decided to kill his roommates.
